Assault Transport concept

The Pegasus is a massive assault transport, built for getting espatiers aboard an opposing ship and keeping them safe while the boarding action is happening. It is a multi-seat ship, and can be operated by two players simultaneously - a pilot and a gunner.

Built primarily for boarding operations, properly fitted it can also serve as a mobile refueling station for starfighters, ship-to-ship shuttle, cargo transport and light duty tug. Outer hull is packed with layers of dense metal and ceramics for a compromise between temperature resistance, armor and ductility.

  • Crew: 1 pilot and 8 gunners, up to 128 troops Mass: 800 metric tons Length: 30 meters Cross-section with/without engines: 10 meters x 5 meters / 10 meters Crew Stations
  • Cockpit seats pilot and multiple gunners within the belly of the ship, using virtual windows to give an appearance of surroundings. Stationed above are rows of troop carriers, with seats containing life support and charging stations for their powered armor. Necking of the access shaft and hatches between sections allows use of the corners for defensive firing in case of a firefight. Furthermore, the entire crew module can separate from the ship to be used as a large scale escape pod.
  • Boarding Pegasus is equipped to force an entry into the target vessel directly through the docking ports, maintaining attachment via frontal grapples while the doors are hacked, or can attach to its side via spinal ‘backbiters’, a series of magnetic clamps and small lasers which burn insertion holes into the hull. Troops deploy through a double airlock, which may serve as a barricade and choke point at the start of the engagement.
  • Weapons 8 weapon hardpoints, current loadout is 8 Gausewerks Kreissage manned guns.

  • Magnetohydrodynamic generators within the cowl of each cascade vane thruster utilize plasma from the reactor to produce electrical power for all ship systems. In case of reactor failure, the extended crew module features fold-out solar panels, and the hydrogen peroxide monopropellant can be catalytically decomposed for use in fuel cells. Powerplant / Main Thruster Zvezda Ruk 35019 Nikolai Closed Cycle Gas Core Nuclear Reactor (GCNR) Fissionable Fuel: particulate uranium Engine mass: 200 metric tons Thrust: 8,000,000 Newtons Specific Impulse: 3,000 seconds Exhaust Power: 117.75 GW (Nominal values determined for high purity gaseous hydrogen propellant) Maneuvering System Cascade vane thrusters use shutters to redirect exhaust and enable controlled thrust in any direction, allowing rapid maneuvers for high speed pursuit of target vessels, and full maneuverability when in close proximity without directing the superheated propellant towards them. Precision maneuvers are accomplished via 48 Vernier Reaction Control System thrusters equipped to use hydrogen peroxide monopropellant, which can broken down into oxygen and water for the crew in case the ship is stranded. Orientation can also be changed via redundant fluid-stabilized Koloss control moment gyroscopes (CMG).
